July update

Launceston Central... Your Guide to the City.

  • Find Hawka & Friends activation
  • Update on the success of The Lounge
  • Soupalicious is back!

Hello to all of our wonderful businesses,

Our winter activations are all happening, to help get more people into the city. Make sure you are spreading the news about them from our social media to bring more people into the city and into your stores and venues.

Find Hawka & Friends

This scavenger hunt has been promoted on TV news on channels 7 and 9, in the Examiner and online. Find the AFL players who hail from Launceston and Hawka and submit the sports shops you find them in online to win a Guernsey of your choice and tickets to the final AFL game of the season.

We have flyers if you would like some for your counter. We encourage you to talk to your customers about the competition to get people staying in the city longer and exploring more shops throughout the CBD.

The Lounge

This has been an outstanding success for sentiment and activity in the city. The public have engaged with this space in a big way, with many demographics, community groups, musicians and individuals engaging in the space and expressing how wanted and needed it is. We have been receiving an average of 150-200 people through the doors and have over 160 feedback forms expressing strong positive sentiment for the space.

People are finding it warm, friendly, inviting, loving the games and the puzzles, the guitars, somewhere to bring their takeaway or eat their lunch out of the office. People have come in to the city just to visit it and shopped and stayed longer in the city and visited more shops because it is there. It has been well received by youth, retirees, disability workers, young families and groups of friends and we have been overwhelmed by groups wanting to use the space. Make sure you come along and check it out and tell your customers about it.

It is due to close 19th July at the moment, but we are trying to raise money to keep it open till the end of winter. A $1000 donation would enable us to keep it open for an extra week. If your business, or anyone you know, would like to see more evidence of the good it is doing and how much it is wanted by community to consider donating in return for sponsorship advertising, then please let me know!

Soupalicious

The monthly competition to find Launceston's best soup is back! Thanks to all those who have entered. Running through the month of August we will be putting up the posters and promoting the competition towards the end of this month. The public will be able to go, try any of the soups and vote for their favourite. Defending champions Saigon Kitchen have entered, but have some strong competition, so watch this space!

Fire & Fog | The Feast

Tickets are on sale now for this event on July 31. This is a high end dining experience with a four course dinner from Stelo in the Old Brisbane Arcade, expect fire, fog, music, art, entertainment and an enchanting epicurean night!

Further business

  • In relation to the ongoing work to combat theft and anti-social behaviour in the city, we will be holding a police information session for how to de-escalate heated behaviour and what procedures to use if you are a victim of theft or abuse. This will be happening in August so make sure you look out for details.
  • We also have another ‘Building Your Business’ session with guest speakers coming up in the next couple of months too with City of Launceston and Business Tas. More details to follow!
  • The NORTH program is now close to being finalised, it has evolved again and is a really great collection of unique and engaging events being put on by our local hospitality venues. We have a volunteer accountant position on the committee that will be taking over the ownership and running of NORTH in 2025 if anyone is interested and also a sponsorship prospectus for the festival if you are looking for a high profile growing event to back this year or next.

My direct email is amanda@launcestoncentral.com.au – I am happy to come and see or chat to anyone and hope you get behind us in promoting all the hard work our team is doing to promote and activate the city.
