Tassie Tea Party | QVMAG
A playful and heartfelt showcase celebrating the warmth, whimsy and creative spirit of tea parties with a Tassie-style twist.
Presented by the Handweavers, Spinners and Dyers Guild of Tasmania, Tassie Tea Party brings together Guild groups from across the state. The Guild connects textile and fibre makers of all kinds, fostering community, creativity, and skill-sharing through demonstrations, discussions, and exhibitions.
Inspired by the wonderfully curious tea scene in Alice in Wonderland, this exhibition tosses tradition aside in favour of imagination, storytelling, and a dash of delightful nonsense. Forget the fine china and formal settings — here, tea tables are transformed into creative installations that surprise, charm, and invite conversation.
Each creation tells a story through fibre, form, and flair — drawing inspiration from uniquely Tasmanian themes such as native fungi, local produce, bushwalks, mythical creatures, and even the act of cleaning up. The scenes span the nostalgic to the fantastical, and everything in between.
Much like the Mad Hatter's table, Tassie Tea Party is a joyful celebration of creativity, conversation, and the many ways we come together over a cuppa — with nature, storytelling, and a little nonsense woven in along the way.
