Slow Fashion Sewing ADVANCED YOUNG | May/June Series

At The ReDress Hub, we're here to help you on your journey to be more 'circular' with your clothing choices, avoid or reduce the consumption of fast-fashion, and clothing and textile waste.

This series of six workshops, takes the next step in your circular clothing journey by showing you how to design and remake existing clothing into something new. They have been created to further your skills in creating your own handmade 'slow-fashion' clothes, contributing to the global circular clothing movement, as well as an introduction to the design process.

This series has been specially designed for Year 7 to 12 secondary-school students who wish to advance their sewing skills in an after-school time slot (Thursdays 4pm – 6pm).

The amazing Lisa Haas (a designer and experienced high-school technology teacher) will be your workshop facilitator, guiding you over the six workshops, to deconstruct, design, reconstruct and finish a garment for you to proudly wear at the end of the course.

It is also the perfect workshop series for those wishing to enter the 2024 ReDressed Competition and ReFashion Show.

The Slow Fashion Sewing Advanced Series includes:

Week 1, Thurs 16 May: Understanding the construction of the garment, fabric types, notions and starting the design process to form ideas.

Week 2, Thurs 23 May: Designing of the new garment, making decisions about the reuse of its different components and how to deconstruct with maximum efficiency.

Week 3, Thurs 30 May: Deconstruction of the existing garment, starting the reconstruction of the new garment, exploring new ideas, and reconsidering initial ideas.

Week 4, Thurs 6 June: Continuation of the reconstruction of the garment.

Week 5, Thurs 13 June: Detailing and/or embellishment of the garment and continuation of its reconstruction.

Week 6, Thurs 20 June: Final garment construction & finishing.

Each session runs for two hours.
