Much Ado About Not(h)ing | Adaptivity Theatre Company | Earl Arts Centre
Adapted and directed by Kelly Wilson
Original music by Alex Loveless and Scott Howland
This innovative adaptation of Much Ado About Not(h)ing, first developed at RADA in 2017, reimagines Shakespeare's classic comedy through a 21st-century lens. With dynamic choreography, original music using Shakespeare's lyrics, and an interactive digital experience, audiences are invited to engage with the play both onstage and online.
In a bold twist, mobile phones are turned on during the show. Viewers can watch the action live or follow the digital version via Facebook, projected onstage. For those feeling mischievous, a Messenger chat group with villains Joan and Borachio offers a deeper, immersive experience.
Set in 2021 Tasmania, Pedro Don and his platoon return from Afghanistan as Australia prepares to withdraw. Tensions rise between Pedro and his half-sister Joan following their father's death. Pedro's godfather, former Tasmanian Premier Leonato Elliott, hopes to mend their rift with a welcome-home celebration. The gathering brings together Hero, her cousin Beatrice, and their family, along with Pedro's comrades Claudio and Benedick, setting the stage for romance, rivalry and intrigue.
