Soggy Bottom Cardboard Boat Regatta 2026
Proudly bought to you by the Rotary Club of Launceston
It all starts with a cardboard box and some strong tape. Okay, a really good cardboard box and lots of strong tape! From there it is just a matter of turning that box into a boat and hoping you can paddle that boat faster than it takes on water. Otherwise, you and your boat will both have a soggy bottom! Join the Rotary Club of Launceston as they host this year's Soggy Bottom Cardboard Boat Regatta on Sunday 22 February 2026.
The Cataract Gorge will come alive the sounds of successful paddling and inevitable sinking with races for individuals and crews 12 years and Under, 13 years to Under 18 years and 18 years and over. There are also races aimed at our local businesses and corporates and our Pacific Island neighbours. Encouraging teamwork, problem solving and creativity, the Soggy Bottom Cardboard Boat Regatta brings together families, friends and colleagues as people of all ages to find an ‘out of the box’ boat design using only cardboard, tap and their imagination.
For those not wanting to get wet but still be part of the event there will be dry races and other activities organised by PCYC North who will have their Mobile Activities Centre (MAC) trailer on site. While the day is primarily about getting our and having fun – it is also about fundraising. This year, the Rotary Club of Launceston is partnering with Diabetes Australia and JCP Youth with raised funds being shared between the three organisations to support their youth programs.
How to get involved:
- Register your team for the boat races and start building a boat
- Donate to make a positive impact on local youth.
