The shop windows of jewellery store Indulge shimmer in the light. Such is its polished appearance that customers often mistake it for a department store. In fact, this small and delightful emporium is part of a business owned by the same Launceston family for just shy of a century.

Rebecca Zuj’s great-grandfather set up as a jeweller in tiny premises at 99a St John Street in 1925. Four generations on, Rebecca is still finding and giving joy in the family tradition.

She was determined to keep the business in the family, purchasing it from her uncle and aunt Tony and Sandy in November 2015, who had built a faithful customer base for over thirty years.

Leaving a successful career in training and aviation, and diving into the world of jewellery she had always loved, Rebecca worked alongside Tony absorbing everything he knew. Her mother Carolyn came on board, leaving a management career to mentor Rebecca through the complexities of business ownership.

Together the two women, along with Rebecca’s husband Chris and part timer Dana, are now the warm front-of-house team whose pleasure in helping people celebrate the special moments of life, or simply treat themselves, shines as brightly as the treasures on display.

Specialising in sterling silver jewellery as well as men’s and ladies’ watches, the feel is modern contemporary with designer brands and quality pieces often from France and Italy. Classic styles appeal to mature customers while there’s sparkle and fun for younger.

Men can expect the ‘indulge’ treatment too. Not only are there creations of leather and steel for sleek adornment, but those who need help with gifts can tap into the ‘wish-list’ system – choosing from pieces selected at Indulge by their significant other. ‘Don’t be afraid to ask,’ is Rebecca’s motto.

Pride of place is the Santo Jewellery collection. Blending Uncle Tony and Aunt Sandy’s names, it was created by Rebecca and her husband Chris and inspired by Tony’s ideas. Within the Santo Jewellery collection are some specially designed pieces where all profits from these certain pieces are donated to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, in memory of Tony. It’s a beautiful legacy in which all members of the family, past and present, come together to indulge us.
